The Welsh landscape offered favourite locations for John Farrington, with ramschackle outhouses and wild undergrowth. His vibrant palette – ‘pumped up’, as his friend the artist Rigby Graham described it – gave rural idylls an edge: greens curdling to white, oranges dissipating into twinging pinks.
